The obverse of the coin depicts a gilded medallion elastic interpretation of medieval miniature - the death of Tsar Samuil, below are the emblem of the Bulgarian National Bank, with the year "1879" written on the tape, face value "10 LEVA" and the year of issue "2013 ". Around is the inscription "BULGARIAN NATIONAL BANK".
The reverse of the coin in the inner circle, separated by a grain-like ring depicts a scene from a medieval miniature - a battle between the Bulgarian and the Byzantine army. Around the outer ring is inscribed "Bulgarian Medieval rulers" and "Tsar Samuil."
