This is the eighth gold coin from the series Bulgarian Iconography, released by BNB from year 2000 till now. Each of these coins is already sold out on the primary market, except only one - "St. Dimitar The Wonderworker". According to an analysis of BulgarianCoins.com the lowest CAGR of a coin from the series mentioned is 11,27% (for the coin "St. John the Baptist") and the highest reached CAGR – 28,89% is that of the coin, emitted in 2007, "St. George the Victorious".
“St. Naum” is the first and only gold coin to be issued by BNB in 2010. The technical parameters of the coin are: 8.63 grams (0.28 ounces), Diameter - 24 mm, Edge – flat. The coin "St. Naum" has official mintage of 3 000 pieces and is with denomination of 100 leva. The price of the coin is 800 leva.
On the obverse side of the coin is the logo of the Bulgarian National Bank and the year of issue 2010, and on the reverse: a portrait of Saint Naum after an 15th century icon, the church of the monastery of St. Naum in Ohrid, and an inscription ST. NAUM.
Saint Naum of Preslav, or also known as Saint Naum of Ohrid (c. 830 – December 23, 910) was a medieval Bulgarian scholar, writer and teacher. He was the youngest pupil of the Saints Cyril and Methodius. According to the hagiography of Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius by Saint Clement of Ohrid, Naum took part in their mission to Great Moravia. In 868 in Rome, Pope Adrian II has ordained the venerable as deacon, and then he accepted the title presbyter. In 885 Naum was expelled from Great Moravia after spending some time in prison for his resistance to the German clergy there. The same or the following year Naum reached Pliska.Naum was one of the founders of the Pliska Literary School.
In 905 Naum founded a monastery at Lake Ohrid, R.Macedonia which later received his name. This is the place where he has been laid to rest and which is believed to bring healing to its visitors
A peak on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica is named for Saint Naum.
