How we calculate it

The score starts from the mintage on a logarithmic scale (500 coins or fewer = 10, ten million = 1). Coins of the Principality and the Kingdom that circulated get extra points, because much of that silver and gold was melted down and many coins were lost in the wars and withdrawn in 1952. Modern commemorative coins lose a point, since almost all of them survive in collections. Finally we look at how often the coin is offered on Balkan Auction: frequent offers lower the score.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin features the stamp of the Bulgarian Revolutionary Central Committee, with a revolver and a dagger on the left and a revolver and a feather on the right, accompanied by the year of minting ‘1981’ and the value ‘2 ЛЕВА’ (2 levs) below. The design is encircled by the words ‘1300 ГОДИНИ БЪЛГАРИЯ’ (1300 Years Bulgaria) and ‘НРБ’ (People’s Republic of Bulgaria), separated by laurel twigs.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin depicts the monument in the Oborishte area, near the town of Panagyurishte, with the number ‘20’ within a wreath and the inscriptions ‘1876 г.’ (1876), ‘АПРИЛЪ’ (April) and ‘ОБОРИЩЕ’ (Oborishte) on three lines above, all surrounded by stylised floral elements.
