How we calculate it

The score starts from the mintage on a logarithmic scale (500 coins or fewer = 10, ten million = 1). Coins of the Principality and the Kingdom that circulated get extra points, because much of that silver and gold was melted down and many coins were lost in the wars and withdrawn in 1952. Modern commemorative coins lose a point, since almost all of them survive in collections. Finally we look at how often the coin is offered on Balkan Auction: frequent offers lower the score.

Obverse

The obverse of the coin features a wreath with the inscription „БЛАГОДАРНОТО ОТЕЧЕСТВО НА СВОИТЕ ХРАБРИ СИНОВЕ 1885” (Fatherland thanks its courageous sons 1885) in it, with the year of minting ‘1981’ and the value ‘2 ЛЕВА’ (2 levs) below. The design is encircled by the words ‘1300 ГОДИНИ БЪЛГАРИЯ’ (1300 Years Bulgaria) and ‘НРБ’ (People’s Republic of Bulgaria), separated by laurel twigs.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin depicts two female figures symbolising the Bulgarian Principality and Eastern Rumelia. Each female holds a sword in the right hand, and one of them carries a shield with the inscription ‘6 IX 1885 1985’, with the words ‘СЪЕДИНЕНИЕТО ПРАВИ СИЛАТА’ (United We Stand Strong) in a semicircle above.
