Nayden Gerov: 200 years since the birth of the author of the great Bulgarian dictionary

From 6 February 2023, the BNB’s cash desks sell a new coin: Nayden Gerov.
Nayden Gerov (1823–1900), born in Koprivshtitsa, was a teacher, writer and diplomat, the first Russian vice-consul in Plovdiv. His five-volume Dictionary of the Bulgarian Language is still a key source on the language.
The coin has a face value of 10 levs and is struck in Ag 999/1000, weighing 23.33 g with a diameter of 38.61 mm. Quality: proof, mint state; mintage: 5,000. It was minted by the Bulgarian Mint to a design by Todor Angeliev.
Reverse: a portrait of Nayden Gerov and ‘200 ГОДИНИ ОТ РОЖДЕНИЕТО НА НАЙДЕН ГЕРОВ’ (200 years since the birth of Nayden Gerov) inscribed in circumference on the top.
The coins are sold at the BNB cash desks in Sofia and at branches of DSK Bank, KBC Bank Bulgaria, First Investment Bank, Texim Bank and Central Cooperative Bank. Each customer may buy only one coin at the BNB cash desks. Buying for someone else requires a notarised power of attorney, and coins are not sold to anyone under 18.
