Tsar Mikhail III Shishman: the new Medieval Bulgarian Rulers coin

On 17 November 2023 the BNB announced a new coin: Tsar Mikhail III Shishman. It is on sale from 20 November 2023.
Mikhail III Shishman ruled from 1323 to 1330 and founded the Shishman dynasty. He died after the Battle of Velbazhd in 1330. Like earlier coins in the series, this one carries partial gilding.
The coin has a face value of 10 levs and is struck in Ag 999/1000, weighing 23.33 g with a diameter of 38.61 mm. Quality: proof, mint state; mintage: 5,000. It was minted by the Bulgarian Mint to a design by Silviya Borisova.
Reverse: in the centre – a replica of a Bulgarian Medieval gold coin with an image of Tsar Mikhail III Shishman on horseback, and the years ‘1323–1330’ underneath; the inscription ‘СРЕДНОВЕКОВНИ БЪЛГАРСКИ ВЛАДЕТЕЛИ’ (Medieval Bulgarian Rulers) in circumference on the top, and below – ‘ЦАР МИХАИЛ III ШИШМАН’ (Tsar Mikhail III Shishman).
The issue price is 144 leva. The coins are sold at the BNB cash desks in Sofia and at branches of First Investment Bank, Texim Bank, Tokuda Bank and Central Cooperative Bank. Each customer may buy only one coin at the BNB cash desks. Buying for someone else requires a notarised power of attorney, and coins are not sold to anyone under 18.
