On 17 May 2024 the BNB announced a new coin: A hundred years of athletics in Bulgaria. It is on sale from 20 May 2024.
The coin marks a century of organised athletics in Bulgaria. It is the BNB’s second sports coin in two years, after “100 Years of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee” (2023).
The coin has a face value of 10 levs and is struck in Ag 999/1000, weighing 23.33 g with a diameter of 38.61 mm. Quality: proof, mint state; mintage: 5,000. It was minted by the Bulgarian Mint to a design by Silvia Borisova.
Reverse: three athletes against the background of the number ‘100’ depicted in the centre; in circumference: inscriptions ‘100 ГОДИНИ’ (100 years) on the top and ‘ЛЕКА АТЛЕТИКА В БЪЛГАРИЯ’ (Athletics in Bulgaria) on the bottom.
The issue price is 150 leva. The coins are sold at the BNB cash desks in Sofia and at branches of Investbank, First Investment Bank, Texim Bank, Tokuda Bank and Central Cooperative Bank. Each customer may buy only one coin at the BNB cash desks. Buying for someone else requires a notarised power of attorney, and coins are not sold to anyone under 18.
