St Patriarch Euthymius of Tarnovo: the BNB’s last gold coin in leva

On 21 November 2025 the BNB announced a new coin: St Patriarch Euthymius of Tarnovo. It is on sale from 24 November 2025.
Patriarch Euthymius was the last patriarch of medieval Tarnovo, led the city’s defence in 1393 and founded the Tarnovo literary school. The coin was the BNB’s last gold issue with a face value in leva before the euro.
The coin has a face value of 100 levs and is struck in Au 999/1000, weighing 8.64 g with a diameter of 24 mm. Quality: proof, mint state; mintage: 3,000. It was minted by the Bulgarian Mint to a design by Plamen Chernev and Preslav Chernev.
The issue price is 2,590 leva (€1,324.25). The coins are sold at the BNB cash desks in Sofia and at branches of Investbank, First Investment Bank, Texim Bank, Tokuda Bank and Central Cooperative Bank. Each customer may buy only one coin at the BNB cash desks. Buying for someone else requires a notarised power of attorney, and coins are not sold to anyone under 18.
