About this period
From 1991 until the euro changeover on 1 January 2026, the Bulgarian National Bank issued its commemorative silver in lev. Since 2011 the most common format has been 10 leva in Ag .925: 23.33 g, 38.61 mm, flat edge, proof quality, minted by the Bulgarian Mint. Mintages of 4,000–6,000 in 2011–2013 settled at 3,000 from 2014.
Long-running series include Bulgarian Churches and Monasteries, Medieval Bulgarian Rulers, Treasures of Bulgaria and Great Bulgarian Voices. From 2019 more issues moved to Ag .999, and some are partially gilded.
Collecting tips
Keep proof coins in their original protective capsule. The BNB advises storing them in suitable conditions without opening the capsule, and it accepts complaints only at the counter at the time of sale.
Collectors generally expect the capsule, certificate and BNB leaflet to be included. Check weight (23.33 g) and diameter (38.61 mm) against the official specifications before buying.
