How we calculate it

The score starts from the mintage on a logarithmic scale (500 coins or fewer = 10, ten million = 1). Coins of the Principality and the Kingdom that circulated get extra points, because much of that silver and gold was melted down and many coins were lost in the wars and withdrawn in 1952. Modern commemorative coins lose a point, since almost all of them survive in collections. Finally we look at how often the coin is offered on Balkan Auction: frequent offers lower the score.

Obverse

On the obverse of the coin there is a wreath of oak branches depicted at the top. To the left and right of the ribbon in small print are the monograms of the authors of the design ‘СН’ and ‘ГЧ’. Below the wreath, inscribed horizontally, are the year of issue ‘1976’, the nominal value ‘2’ and the word ‘ЛЕВА’ (LEVS). The composition is completed with a circumferential border and the inscriptions ‘НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА’ (PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC) and ‘БЪЛГАРИЯ’ (BULGARIA), separated by two five-pointed stars, in the outer ring.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features the image of Ivan Borimechkata carrying a rifle in his right hand against the background of the ‘Cherrywood Gun’. The year ‘1876’ is inscribed to the left of it. The composition is completed with a circumferential border, and the inscriptions ‘АПРИЛСКО ВЪСТАНИЕ’ (APRIL UPRISING) and ‘СТО ГОДИНИ’ (ONE HUNDRED YEARS), separated by two dots, in the outer ring.
